Combines return elevator pluging

Rolf When the elevator plugs all i have to do is open the door at the bottom and kick the machine back in gear about a 5 gallon bucket worth of very finely ground material comes out from the cross auger feeding the elevator. It was happening on side hills but now it seems to happen any where.Do I have some adjustments wrong or am I over thrashing. Could some discharge parts be worn not getting material out of cage. Machine as far as I know is stock (has all reverse bars it came with). Would apprieciate any and all advice. Also if you could give me some advice on setting the machine, we farm some rolling ground always concerned about shoe loss on sidehills. Thankyou, Newman

usually the only reason the tailings plug is the top chute is stopped up. Check your accelerator rolls. High wear will cause a air blast which will fluff the material and cause material to bridge and back up to the tailings chute. Make sure the fingers are in the distribution auger. Taking a good degreasing cleaner to the back wall of the slide area behind the grate and then painting with slipplate (graphite and laceur) will prevent this also. Finally an old grate cover off a N bolted to the upper RH grate will prevent stems protruding and again bridging. This is a rare accurance that happens in light dry crop conditions. Top chaffer should be set more open than bottom seive as a rule.
