i am from central sask. and i run a 480 and had similar trouble in a weed called kochia (it grows in bad saline soils) when harv. flax but all i did was close down the top sieve until i was through the bad spot. You could also open up bottom sieve more and use a little more wind i had elec. sieve.your sample might get dirtier but shouldn't have a return problem

Yes, its just funny to have a simple TR-98 with my 16 year old brother operating it, getting about a .3-.7% dockage, be in identical 22 ft. windrow going the same speed and suddenly my Cat has to stop to unplug the return. Getting a dirtier tank sample shouldn't be the answer. Now the new CR has double return elevator, I bet it will really eat up my 480 now!

If you are only putting in a 22 ft. swath into the 480 then you aren't even filling this machine up so you are not doing a good job of threshing the wheat so in the return i am guessing that there is a lot of unthreshed_part heads in the return along with the wild oats.Your bottom sieve is probably closed right down to get a clean sample so you don't get a propper air blast to your top sieve therefore your cleaning capacity drops unthreshed material builds up in the system and your return plugs. If you put ,for ex. , a 36' or more swath into it you will do a better job thresing the first time so there will be less material in the return so when you get into a bad spot of wild oats it wouldn't plug.In a small swath like that you should almost (if the wheat is hard threshing) use the small APS concaves or close it off run a little more cyl. speed ,tighter concave and a more wind. BASICAllY you didn't have it SET RIGHT. let me know what your settings were. Your TR probably threshed it more since it is a rotary machine so you won't have near as much in the return so it won't plug in wild oats patches.was there a lot of good wheat in the return on the cat when it plugged.
