Combines return to cylinder kit

We put the return on our R-65 for the first time. Our dealer said also that we didn't need it, but I think this is where Gleaner is lacking. Our beans were never as clean as this. Every machine we have from now on will that the tailings return on it. I think it is well worth the cost.

G'Day mailman13 Here in Oz the tailing returns are a standard option for all our small grains, Its very handy to be able to send some white heads or pods back through the concave just to knock out that last little bit or to have it go straight back to the Acc rollers. It's one of those things that just give you and another opinion. I have had 5 filler bars in and still had to send the repeats back through the concave!!! (Green Canary seed!!!!) One thing to watch on the repeats is which way the head covers are!! some people are changing the the flaps over with the slide lever but are not checking the top repeat plate to see if the head cover is flat side up or down!! if you get it wrong it can and will block up the top of the repeats with green material or you could be sending stuff up the returns to concave that you don't want!!! I have found three of my neigbores with theres around the wrong way!!! as they complained that they were blocking the repeats all the time with green stuff!! I would not get another machine with out it IMO!!!!(I fact I would not get another R series machine with out it been FUllY Hyped!!!!) Im hearing good things about steep pitched helicals over thresher end of cage also. Rolf

We did the upgrade with a used kit on our '94 R-72 a few years ago. Wasn't a terrible job but took a couple of us most of a day. The kit does its job when it comes to unthreshed pods in hard to thresh conditions (green soybeans). That said, we've found we can get similar results by just removing the wedge in the concave. Just amazing the changes in overall performance of a combine when making concave adjustments (wedge, clearance, level, up to specs, etc...)...its 95% of the combine I guess I wouldn't install on used machine again however if I was buying new it would be hard to not order it.

Brian: just so i understand removing the wedge. does this mean you reduce the clearance on the left hand side of the cageIJ thanks

It means that we adjust draw bolts on lower part of concave such that we have less than 0.4" of wedge as per standard rec. When removing wedge we adjust until indicators on each side of concave are towards "min" (we do not go all the way to min). Having never operated with concave filler strips I believe this accomplishes about the same thing and is probably lots easier to do. For corn we do the opposite and adjust towards max. This helps us keep cobs whole.

thanks brian. i have been adjusting the concave with the draw bolts on each side for different crops with improved results. when i first got my r42 i talked with several guys in my area with gleaners and they said that they never adjust the concave with the draw bolts, they only adjust the clearance with the ratchet on the outside of the machine. i just wanted to make sure i understood the wedge and didn't mess things up with the adjustments that i've been making. thanks
