Several companies can provide rotor bars for your machine. We have them in 1.standard, 2.chrome plated, 3.hardfaced or 4.alloyed with chromium. These are listed in order of operating life, with n1 as the shortest.

One consideration is the amount of bolt wear. You should change bars before the bolt head wears beyond the point where a socket will not fit the bolt. Other considerations are performance. New bars will feed better in tough conditions. Click on the link below to view installation instruction for fitting Gorden Rotor Bars on specialty rotors.

The height of the teeth on a rotor bar should be approx. the same measurement as the thickness of a lead pencil. The leading side of the teeth should be square. If the teeth are rounded over and sloped from the leading edge to the rear edge, the bars should be replaced. When replacing, be sure to clean out dirt, etc. from under the mounts as well as you can so you can check balance properly. Weights of most replacement sets are fairly consistent, but it doesn't hurt to check weights with a scale and write them on the bars. You'll observe that you actually have 4 rows of bars. Try to add up the weights of the bars so you'll know the weights of each row and install rows which are matching in weight in opposite each other. Hope this is reasonably clear.

Bars can be reversed if the arch at the center of the teeth isn't worn off too badly. If the flanges of the channel iron helicals are worn down to much below 3_8" in height, you should consider replacing them.

New black iron helicals will measure 1_2" while chromed will measure 5_8". What you harvest and or the toughness to convey crop makes all the difference. While 3_8" may work just fine for high RPM dry crop you will need 5_8" chromed for slow RPM green crop. I wouldn't even think about using anything other than chrome no matter what condition you run in. We have fliped cylinder bars also if caught before crown is worn. Good luck.
