looks like the 79 will still haul the mail. How much better do you like the 1660IJ I remember when the first axial flows came out and we were stunned at the ability to shell corn like mad. GS
I just replaced a rotor belt again this fall. Only 200 hrs on the old one. This one gave away under load in beans. I also was wondering what would have caused it. I am going to go through it this winter looking at bearings.
Check the alignment of rotor drive and driven pulleys. This is easily done with a straigtedge laid across the backside of the driven sheave, extending the straightedge to the drive sheave, noting any misalignment.
well...as suggested by our local mechanic we ran the machine with the worn belt....yesterday afternoon it came off and lodged itself pretty good around the drive wheel....only damage was the shield around that wheel was bent a bit. we put on a new belt....had to do a little heating and welding on the damaged shield to return it to the original condition. the local mechanic also told my dad to check the adjustment of the separator cyllinder. i got the book out.....read the information on how there is an adjustment rod and a piece that looks like a small door but when the separator is engaged ....this small door or "window" serves as an adjustment tool. we did some measuring on the rod itself and came to the conclusion the rod needed drawn in almost 3_4 of an inch.....did so....engaged the separtor...the small "window" lined up as shown in the book. problem solved....i hope. not sure why the adjustment was so loose....we have only had the machine since 1999......no previous adjustment on our part. in response to some of the replies to my previous message. i do like the 1660 a great deal. it has the specialty rotor and chopper which the 1460 does not. not to mention the rock trap that is lacking on the 1460. it is something to operate and maintain the 2 machines and see the noticeable improvements that were made over the 13 years. kinda makes me hungry for a new one.....grrr
Over the years I've noticed on my combines if I have everything adjusted corretly, when the rotor belt goes, there is nothing left to take off. I mean the belt just disinagrates. All you do is go back there and pick up all the little peaces and then put a new belt on. K.A.
West illini Check the bearings by all means I had a very similar problem to yours our belts did no more than 200 hrs from 88 - 00. In 00 I went through 3 belts in 36 hrs local Case mechanic came out and found alignment off but more seriously pedistool which takes drive from polyvee to rotor belt was worn CIH quoted 5000 + tax so I drove 450 miles to a breaker spent 4 hrs taking it off and 350 put it in the back of my wee VW and drove home. Belt has now lasted 450hrs
Thats why I call it Shredding a belt. I have 3 hrs of beans left Then I will do a detail inspection and _or dismantling of the rotor and drives. BTW, I have a Rock Trap on mine and like to sell it and put a standard feeder on, if anyone is interested. The only rocks I have are from old farmsteads and house sites. It has a 125 hr old feeder chain
Since you guys are talking about belts, have any of you ever tried Pixall combine belts. I know a rotor belt is about 1_2 price of OEM Case IH. I need to replace a few belts and am wondering about the quality of the Pixall.
