Instead of lenghting the knives on the rotor, is there holes to let you add moreIJ Also check to make sure the corners are not worn off and rounded. The cover plates do work well verses changing concaves, normally added in small grainsthat are hard to knock out. Up to three plates may be used. try the plates, a lot easer and cheaper than different concaves.

It sounds like you are experiencing rotor lossesIJ If this is true, you most likely have a feeding or threshing problem that has not been addressed. The majority of separation should take place before the end of the threshing section. On this machine you can generally speed-up rotor speed and close down the concaves until you start getting damage and then back off a little. If your kicker bars have moderate to severe wear on them they will have a shorter radius and not be as effective as new. The wear strips are reverseable for double life. Be sure to reinstall in the same location to maintain balance. Most machines have two sets of bed bars for the vine knives. A method to better deal with green, viney conditions is to use knives installed in a spiral pattern (not the way shown in the operators manual). Remove the overlap plate for access. Start with one knife installed in the first holes of a bed bar. Rotate the rotor downward (counterclockwise as viewed from the rear),to the next bed bar and install another knife in the second set of holes. Rotate the rotor and install a third knife in the third position. etc. etc. You will have to install one extra knife near the end of the rotor to maintain balance. Remember to always install in sets of three. If you want to use less knives and therefore use less horsepower, install them only on the first bed bar of the pair of bed bars, but still using the spiral pattern. This will use 1_2 as many knives. This spiral pattern has a tendenancy to propel or "auger" the green material through the rotor in a thinner crop mat. A thinner crop mat allows the grain to separate easier. The old argument of don't use vine knives because of the additional HP required is offset by less material (thinner crop mat)and less "roping" which consumes a lot of HP. Yes these machines do respond well to the cover plates and in fact, they are required in small grains when the corn concaves are installed. You will find that unthreshed heads fall out of the first and second concaves. The first concave is below the orientation bars (large square rasp bars). These bars are on a shorter radius than the long rasp bars so don't thresh as hard, allowing small broken heads, etc. to fall through the concave unthreshed. I have used as many as four cover plates to get the job done in extreme conditions.
