Combines Rotor loss in corn on 1480

Jake, You could consider adding four Straight Separator Bars to the rear of the rotor (assuming you do not have any now). It is actually possible to add eight over the grates if you need to, which is was CIH claims you should have for corn. I guess the theory is that the straight bars force more material through the grates increasing separation. I doubt they will help you out much in green stem beans, so I would just start by adding four and seeing if the rotor loss goes down to an acceptable level. Another thing to consider is the Gorden Separator bars or adding more of the original Gorden bars. Either would probably help, but I can't say which option is the best for your situation.

You need to retard the vanes over the concaves and you will see a day and night difference. It wont hurt to tighten up your concaves also. You may need to get some of the kicker bars over the grate area I think you can put 6 of them in. Once you get it dialed in you should be able to scoot right along around 3.5-4.0 and do a perfect job.

you might try slowing your rotor down a little bit right now we're running 250-300 which is slow but it helps with rotor loss. we run a 1680 6row. good luck.

We added 4 sraight bars in the front of the grate area and pulled all of the wires in the rear two concaves and have it down to about a half bu. per acre. Is this all the better that we can expectIJ Thanks for the help. Jake

I don't know much about corn but a half bushel out of 200 is only .25%. That means 99.75% went in the tank. I would guess that very few machines are doing any better. Maybe we can get some opinions from guys who raise cornIJ

Jake, Full corn shucks are what is causing your rotor loss. You might try a set of The Disrupters and rice spike bars. This is what I designed them for in Specility rotors. Case's idea of the retarder bars or stright bars was to keep the shucks in the seperating section longer to unload the shucks. The sharpened Disrupter lugs cut up the corn shucks. They also cut up the green stem bean straw. Vanes can be left in the middle position for both crops. Call me any time at Estes Mfg. Co. 1-800-235-4461
