Combines Rotor loss sensor

I've never put much faith into that rotor loss sensor either. Seems like they aren't reading loss at all, or a piece of straw is hitting it giving off false readings. I have always thought a better place for it would be down under the discharge beater.

yes or move it to the other (rh) side of the divider and be careful not to pinch the wires. And make sure it works by turning to cyl and have a friend play wipeout on the board with a pen.

Yep been there try it once, Dad Moved our rotor sensor on our 1980 N7 down to the outlet area, we found that it didn't seem to make much difference for some reason! it could be different now with our R62 and it's mod's! I think you would need to experiment with the exact position down in the outlet area so as to find the right spot, and for T langan you might have to call it the Gee Spot!!!! (Gee! Is that how little it's losing!!!) (wait for it there will be other comment's!!)

I had thought about relocating for to much MOG was hitting the sender which showed high losses. Than with upgrades we find were setting module more sensative than ever. One little tap against pad in most sensative position will cause alot of needle deflection. I did relocate one one time just across the divider toward bearing plate and that made it less sensative. Gleaner has played with the location of pad over time and I believe the R50 is placed very close to where it is presently. Did you ever do like tbran suggestedIJ I believe a year or so ago we talked about many combines had a couple wires crossed so cylinder loss would show up as shoe loss and shoe loss would show up as cylinder loss. Turn monitor to shoe and tap on cylinder pad and then turn to cylinder and tap on shoe pad. If system is working backwards let me know and I will try guide you to the wires that need to be turned around. If all checks OK than I bet that twisting pad down like you mentioned will make it more sensative. I believe monitor has to remain toward top of cage for otherwise I think straw will plug between pad and cage. let us know what you find out.

O hope I am not garbaging up the discussion, but I can't get any life out of the rotor sensor on my R60. Would relocating it helpIJ Tom in MN

I have checked my sensor several times - it gives a meter movement when tapped lightly with a screwdriver so i conclude the lack of movement while combining is not from sensor malfunction. So when corn is obviously being lost, the Pacer set on sensetive setting and no reading - i conclude postioning or some other factor is responsible. The grain dust on the mounting panel leaves a nice arc which just brushes the plane of the sensor. I'd expect the plane of the sensor should be relatively perpendicular to the travel of the grain. Not 2 cents but my opinion. hard to test my theory this time of year. Ed

I assume you have tapped on pad with monitor set to cylinder position to see wireing is right. If you are losing enough crop where monitor should be showing something you may want to get pad closer to cage or tip down a bit like Ed is contemplating. If I remember right you have the P1 in your R60. If you have the P1 and have cage sweep removed the very top of cage could be mounding up with some material which could block material from tapping pad. In that case you would want to move sender forward and down a bit. I would imagine pad position has been positioned for best average position for the guys that rarely run less than 900 RPM to the guys that are rarely over 500 RPM cylinder. Then keep in mind the large difference in crop weight. I don't think it would be a bad plan on these upgraded machines to make sender more sensative but than again it is nice to have them set so sensative. Keep in mind that monitor is watching ground speed so the faster machine is traveling the less sensative the system is.

Thanks for the suggestions, and yes I have the P1 processor. The rotor sensor is still in the factory location up against the side of the grain bin. A few acres of corn did it in 2 years in a row so I gave up on it. Good idea about rotor speed. After modifications I can run much slower that before. Maybe its time to try another sensor.
