Winter just won't let go in central alberta this year. We haven't had but a few days even close to the freezing point. last year the golfers had already been at it a month ago. This weekends' forecast is snow, snow, snow. There is a rumor for some improvement next week. Our march was the coldest on record since 1899. Maybe the global warming advocates are communicating with the wrong end of the horseIJ

If it helps Tom, we have an SCH that we ordered a few weeks ago laying in our shop. It will replace the OEM 3" sections on our 800 head before bean cutting this fall. I have talked to a lot of folks with all colors and I hear hardly any complaints on the SCH. I have had double cuts on our 500 head and we took them off after a few hundred acres. You still have the repair and maintenance costs and I do not like them in no-till situations. I am also getting the smaller drive pulley on my box to speed up the sickle about 15%. My AGCO teckie recomends the SCH and speeded up sickle for beans and in no-till.

Mike, did you have a Double Cut II that I understand is 1.5 sections with every other section upside downIJ The pictures look like there is a guard-like hold down above every guard. I dont know how this arrangement would work on the drive end where the sickle must be free to float away from the guards unless it is attached to the wobble box with a flexible coupling like a tie rod end.

Same here, March was the coldest month, which has never happened before. The global warming nut cases will crawl out of the woodwork again as soon as we get some summer-like weather.

We had the original double cut 1.5". It improves cutting and ground speeds, but is not my pick for no till. It still has all the breakage and maintenance associated with the OEM sickle. I would think the double cut would really shine in wheat.

When I took an old Gleaner double cut system and fastened full set of guards on top and bottom of sickle I had to custom make the guards for first couple postitions from wobble box. I just used the guards from a standard sickle and cut slot deaper so the longer double cut sickle blade would not catch. Don't know about double cut 2 system you are talking about.
