Did you try adjusting your cut up just a notch when it gets a bit dampIJ

my experience is that the trash buildup usually starts behind the cutterbar..I assume you have poly skid plates..if not they will make a huge difference..also may want to try adjusting the cutterbar angle a bit..this will also change the angle that the skid plate is running on the ground.

I had a neighbor that got rid of his SCH sickle becuase of the problems you describe. Before purchasing our new 8000 head I talked to a SCH representative about my neighbor's problem. That representative told me that my neighbor should have taken a hand grinder and make the spears or points on the SCH a bit dull with the grinder. That was his sollution to my neighbor and your problem. I can't say if that worked or not because my neighbor didn't keep it long enough to try this idea and I have not experienced it on my new SCH. Good luck.

yes, blunting the points has fixed a complaint that we had a couple of years ago.

Well as usual, if you watch this site often enough sooner or later a problem you've(myself)been having will present itself here on Gleaner Combine Talk Show! I have been having the same problem, only my problem has been in perfectly dry conditions, leaves and stems start building up under the bar, then starts running over beans. I have done everything I could think of, ie, adjusting angle of the knife, height of header height control. I had come to the conclusion I should have changed it to the SCH system!!lOl!! My focus of frustration is a Crary system! Thanks for the heads up Gentlemen! You guys are great!

Have you adjusted the lift assist springs to take a bit of pressure off the groundIJ Do you have the plastic skidsIJ If you have fastened tube behind the cutter bar be sure it flexes easily with cutterbar. Good luck

check to see if flex is full or dirt, if it is it can get heavy and not flex right. i clean mine most every day. good luck

I am having the exact same problem with my SCH on a 8000 series head. We have a Crary air reel, and that does not seem to help. The SCH has given me the closest cut we have ever had, but we have the same problems with trash, then pushes dirt. I tries taking ground pressure off and adjusting the lift springs. I think the idea of grinding some of the points is worth a try, and I might try it myself.

Thanks NDDan, my header does have the poly skids, and no I haven't tried adjusting the lift springs, and the reason being, I've never had this problem before. I must say I don't remember having seen this much trash between the rows before. What is Gleaner's spects on the how much weight the cutter bar puts on the ground. Back when we put Hiniker flexible cutter bars on they recommended 50 lbs. anywhere on the bar. Thanks again I will try lightening up the bar.

Don't remember ever seeing a spec on weight. I think that would be a huge variable with all the different conditions. Of course it would be best to set with as little ground pressure as you can. Poly skids made a guy kind of forget about ground pressure until one encounters you problems. Good luck
