I bet I can guess where it broke! I agree these things have a weak spot. Broke one this spring in wheat, and a just a couple of days ago while cutting beans. like you said, the register is correct as well as the clearance of the sections. We went ahead and put all new guards on even though the old ones didn't look that bad. There is only so many things that can cause it. Also, make sure you're wobble box is tight.

Yup, we take and add key stock and weld around the bend area, plenty of room to beef up , there are two bolt sizes as later units are larger. We have never failed a 'beefed up' head - yet. I went to field with a new R75 last Thurs.... ran 30 yards and cut clean off a T post stuck inside a black plastic drain pipe. (eyesight is going evidently) Did not even render the section and guard inservicable! SCH stuff is pretty tough evidently. I DO NOT reccomend this test however, do not try this at home...
