Combines Screens on the bottom of the shoe

I was always under the impression that they were for dirt removal while cutting beans since that's where you're most likely to scoop up a pile in places. We used to remove the cover while doing beans with out M3, but leave it in now that we run the rotaries since I think the accelerator rolls_heavy air blast blows most of it out before it even gets to the shoe. I see very little dirt while unloading trucks_wagons while doing beans even though our screen is covered.

I always take the covers off. I like to leave the weed seeds where I find them. There is always a good pile to clean off when you get done with a field. You must have some pocket gophers in your beans and if you don't let me know and I can transplant some for you. They will leave you all of the dirt and rocks you want. And if you do not have rocks come north a little ways and we give them away all you have to do is pick them free of charge.

Where are you at DeadeyeIJ We used to have a lot of problems with pocket gophers (the kind that burrow in the ground!) until about 10 years ago. Then they seemed to disappear for the most part. We still have a few but not nearly like we used to. The county used to pay a buck or two for the tails - my brother and I trapped them all summer long but never seemed to put much of a dent in the populations. The kicker was a neighbor kid who would trap them, cut their tails off, and let them go again so he wouldn't "extinct" his populations, thus reducing his summer spending money! He always was about six bricks short of a load!

I am from central MN. If you want some gophers back come and get them. We sill have a bounty on them, townships pay $1. WE have one trapper that is making a good living trapping at 2 doller_ gopher and you turn in the tail for a buck. He has enough business that he has a waiting list. Used to be all of the kids trapped but now it is to hard of work for them.

I know we are wandering way off topic for this board, but hey, it's wintertime and the Gleaners are all snug in their sheds. But what do you guys use for trapsIJ I had a schoolmate show me how to trap way back when I was about 10 yrs old - used the old fashioned pan traps. We'd dig the mound out, poke around and find his tunnels, and set the pan trap right in the crossways of his tunnels. Then we'd cover the hole with a board and pile dirt around it to keep light out. Supposedly, the little creep would come a strollin' along and step right in the trap. Then we switched to the Death Clutch trap that you set into an open tunnel. They come along and want to plug the tunnel back up to keep the light out and trip the trap - there were two curved, pointed bars that would snap shut and do him in. They are much quicker to set than the pan traps. We never tried any poisons but heard they weren't very effective. As I said, the gopher problem has subsided, but if I could just find a "cure" for those friggin moles in my yard!

For mole control in the yard get yourself a blue heeler dog. My dad has one that digs them up all the time. Of course you have holes in the yard where she digs but she gets rid of the moles.

We use both kinds. There are some new death clutch traps that work better but when the going gets tough the pan traps are hard to beat. The pros also use some bait at times. I dont know for sure but think it is peanut buttter plus someting else.

I've heard of all kinds of cures for moles. The most common is to drop Juicy Fruit gum in their tunnel - they supposedly eat the gum and it plugs'em up internally and kills them. The good one I heard once is to have a woman urinate into their tunnels - supposed to drive them away. Can't get my wife to do this though! "But honey, there ain't THAT much traffic that goes by here!" What I wonder is how in hades did anyone discover that cure for themIJIJIJ Male urine isn't supposed to work - just female. I run an old Allis 510 lawn mower - nearly indestructable so the mole hills turn to dust vs the Mean Ol' Allis! I wouldn't waste my $$ on any of these newer mowers for farm duty lawn mowing!
