Better check the separator belt adjustment. It is important to follow the procedure in the ops manual on the adjustment for all the belt guides and supports. Sounds like the belt is hanging onto the drive pulley too tight and doesn't want to release. Just replaced one on a customer machine in the field today.

Striker, I have a 1991 1660 that the separator belt will be down to two plys in about 150 hours. Here are the things we looked at. 1. Pulley alingment....is within 1_16" of each one. 2. Adjusted cover shield on driven pulley...Made it as close as possible. 3. The 3_8" rod that carries the belt...Where is the adjustment for thisIJ 4. Replaced pulley and bearing that tightens the belt when the swith is engaged. I have been harvesting with this 2 ply belt for the last 50-100 hours.... Any suggestions....Thanks Jack

I have had a similar problem on a 1680.The driver was pulling the separator in at full rpm. It warped the clutch plates and they had to be replaced.

Case went back to a drive similar to what is on the smaller rotors for engaging seperator. This system with a cylinder that engages a pulley down on to the belt like the unloading system engagement is a lot less problems. The pto drive like you have on your 88 and also on mine was discontinued. Your clutch packs from heat will be stuck together and therefore won't fully stop system. What will eventually happen is the clutches will come apart and system won't hold speed. Remove PTO assembly and get rebuilt then after about 10 hours of running change filter and oil again to remove all filings. I burnt mine out by jogging the rotor in wheat when it was plugged. It doesn't take much to damage this system.
