Combines sep grate cover

If you're in corn, the last thing you want to do is cover any open area of the cage. When you moved the bars on the grate, you still only have a narrow opening that can become plugged with cobs and reduces capacity. Moving the bars makes the grate less aggressive, but doesn't 'open' it up like removing every other wire does. Remove every other wire in the grate, and you'll see a big jump in separating capacity. Probably will want to put bars back in original position.

Tim, Are you plugging the seperator grate with cobs or shucksIJ If you are plugging with cobs then we need to find out why cobs are breaking up.Have you readjusted the concave to remove the factory wedgeIJ Are you running narrow space cylinder bars or wide spacedIJ Narrow spaced cylinder bars can grind cobs. Too narrow of a concave setting or unlevel concave can also break cobs. Reverse bars can break cobs.I would not recommend removing every other wire from grate until you have answers for above questions.let me know if you have further questions.If shucks are the plugging problem,this is usually associated with a variety or when first starting harvest of corn. I am getting some broken cobs but not many but over time they start plugging the grate also we harvest in a lot of damp conditions then husk can build up some. I run wide bars with no reverse bars one machine has 1_2 high bars and the other one has no bars in place of the reverse bars. I need to check out the wedge Have never did anything but check to make sure the concave is level. Also on location of the f2 bars where is the best place to locate them I have mine in the middel should they be placed more to the leading edeg of the sep grate. Thanks Tim

Tim, Definitely check the wedge in the concave. It is not needed for corn,rarely needed in soybeans,and can be readjusted for small grain.Is the whole grate plugging with cobs or just a certian areaIJ We have noticed on machines that we extended the 3rd helical from the gearbox,were starting to load up or rumble when conditions where tough.We now extend that same helical down and across seperator grate to stop that condition. When this is done you will have to relocate one F2 bar. Nomally we install them in an offset pattern.As for shucks,this is sometimes a cylinder speed issue.No ryhme or reason but sometimes faster cylinder speed or slower cylinder speed will eliminate shuck build-up.However if moisture in corn is high,you will have to run slower cylinder speeds.Hopefully I have answered your question. The only draw back I can see to the blanks is that the backer bar for the cly, bars bends some but I think rotor loss is a little less with the blanks. I was concerend going into wheat harvest but 80bu, wheat and heavy straw and no rotor loss to speak of. Tim
