Combines Separator Clutch on R7

Not familiar with the R7 but if it is similar to the N7 in the main combine clutch department then the following fix can be done in a day. The clutch shaft and main drive shaft have possibly drifted out of line as the combine's steel frame has warped a very small amount over the years. Usual fix is to remove both clutch and main drive shaft and use a string or similar right through to realign and reset the lH frame bearing housing. A lot of work but unnecessary. An alternative fix that I used 20 years ago on our N7 of that time. Hope I can explain this clearly! 1 _ Remove clutch and clutch shaft. 2 _ From 3 mm plate, cut out a disc about the same size as the overall clutch diameter. 3 _ Drill some considerably over size holes in the disc to fit over the drive pins in the main shaft. 4 _ Weld a piece of shaft or pipe to the centre of the disc and as accurately centred as you can make it. It doesn't need to be turned _ lathed, just very close to central and aligned at right angles to the disc. The shaft or pipe should be long enough to extend through the lH bearing housing location. 5 _ Remove pins [ if there are 6 drive pins, removing three should be enough ] and bolt disc and it's shaft to the main drive shaft so that the disc shaft extends through to the lH bearing housing location. Bolts will need washers for the oversize holes and should be just tight enough to allow the disc to be tapped into position. 6 _ Turn the main drive shaft and tap the disc into a position where the extended shaft at the lH bearing location is fully centred when turning. 7 _ Remount the bearing housing accurately centred on the shaft. 8 _ Remount clutch and clutch shaft. The extended shaft may weave around a bit from the disc but very importantly, as long as it is accurately centred when turning the main shaft over, right where the lH bearing housing is located, you will have an accurately aligned shaft all the way through and your clutch will be have full plate contact. Bushings should then last for years as well. Good luck! I hope this can help.
