Grate isn't removable on '96 and earlier machines unless seperator cage was replaced with newer design with adjustable grate. Newer design cage with adjustable grate can be installed in older machine no problem. First adjustable grate were low-narrow wire just like the rigid grates. Gleaner come with an available high wide wire grate in '99 and it will fit '97 and newer machines. You can get close to high-wide wire with rigid grates by removing every other wire and building up the remaining wires 1_8" to 1_4". Otherwise I know loewen has seperator grates made of cage material for both the adjustable and rigid. For the rigid you cut out the grate and bolt in the cage material. They may make high-wide wire that will bolt into old machines also. Another mod out there that hyper does is leave all the low narrow wires in but cut every other cross bar loose and push forward I believe. This likely keeps grate clean of cobs also when cylinder is hyped up. Hope that helps.

I will have to look at this closer in the morning Dan, I was thinking it was adjustable just like the one in the cage laying in the shop. The extra cage is out of maybe a 99 machine, we ran a cultivator shank up it and bent the cage in a couple places and insurance replaced it. I know the wires in it are wider and with the 75 we never noticed the cobs sticking in the grate only in the 62. Now I am wondering if the cage was replaced (62) with a newer style, because it definately has been replaced before we bought it. Everything inside was brand new. This machine came from Pennsylvania somewhere.

I guess it has the low wire grate in it because the wires are so close together.
