Combines seperator wont engage until run a while

I had a similar problem on my 2388. Voltage was too low in the cab but was fine back at the alternator. I used a digital multimeter to track it to the main connection on the cab. I spliced it across and it worked fine all year. As far as cold being the issue, there must be a solenoid somewhere that engages the separator. You could try hanging a trouble light there if you are near power to keep it warm and see if it starts in the morning.

I have had the same problem on a 2188 and a 2388 and the only time it occured was when I was harvesting late into the fall and it was cold out sometimes I would flip the switch and it would take a minute to engage. When the wheat harvest came back around all worked fine, I believe it is the cold myself...

seperator pto has some type of problem or filter restriction

I would replace the pto filter and if that did not help open the cover on top of the pto housing and look in side at the gears. I took out a pto back in 1995 on one of my 1688's back then the bill was around 4000.00$$, just my 2 cents good luck. Spiff

Same thing happened to me on a 1480 and it was the accumulator on top of the pto housing. Had it charged with nitrogen and worked fine after that.

This is a common complaint. There are several amall orifices in the PTO circuit that oil must flow thru. When temperature drops oil viscosity will increase. Second as temperature drops accumulator pressure will also decrease. Third, if it is an electrical problem typically heat makes the problem worse. I would tend to think this is a temperature related issue.

It is definetaly a temp issue, as in combine being warmed up. IT would do it even on a 70 degree day, but not as bad. I like the accumalotor idea, it sounds easy enough to fix, hope its that. thank for the replies
