The first thing I would look at is the sickle. If you have wide spaced sections, get a narrow cut sickle. Hyper II sells a fantastic sickle that can go UPS. Are your sickle guards tight up against the bottom sides of the sickleIJ I have had a machine shop mill them to give identical dimensions from bar mounting surface to sections. Sometimes the sickle is bent up against the hold-downs. I believe the major cause of this is lifting with a forklift or storing on a non-flat surface. To answer your question about 300 vs. 500 heads, the 500 has many improvements but I believe the sickles are the same. Both do a great job on soys if the sickle is set properly. Tom in MN
