I'm a little thick, so don't laugh when I ask: "What's the difference between a flex head and floating cutterbarIJ" I've had machines w_floating cutterbar and header height control before, but I guess not a flex head. So, what's differentIJ Thanks!

A floater bar can move vertically, but is still almost rigid horizontally. If it moves up at one end, the other end moves up too. A flexible bar can move vertically in one spot while allowing the rest of the bar to continue hugging the ground. The knife on a flex head can literally bend to do this, while a floater can not.

I'm dumb too! Never heard of a floater bar! The only floater bars around here sell pies floating in a plate of soup. Yuk!! I'm still learning.

From my experience, I think Gleaner made 3 different platforms for the K2. The rigid pitman drive type, the floating pitman drive type, and the flex wobble drive box type. The rigid needs no explanation. I believe the floating type was an aftermarket add-on for the pitman drive rigid. The wobble box drive flex platform was fully manufactured by Allis Chalmers. It was introduced for the K2 in about 1978 without the big wide dividers. In either 1979 or 1980 they were introduced with the wide longer dividers. I think these later ones were series 2 flex heads, but not positiveIJ

That's what this one has, the wide dividers. I have never seen anything on a K2 but the 10' or 13' platforms, some with the Hart-Carter floater bar attachment. I may have to look into finding one of these elusive true flex heads for my K2.

I'm not sure if I have the elusive flex head or not on my K2. I purchased a 81 model K2 Corn Plus Machine Serial n K - K26927V with a 13'head Serial n K F37161F. I have yet to see another bean head like mine on a K2. Its black with wobble box and long silver row dividers. Was purchased new with 330 corn head. The head flexs at any spot over rocks with no difficulty. The sickle bars bends easily I guess is what I am saying. Is it a floater or a flexIJ Does the serial tell anythingIJ

Yes that's the one! A true flexible cutterbar for a K2. I'll wrestle you for it! Just kidding. But at least I know that they do indeed exist. However, they are so few and far between, I may end up putting a Bish adapter on the K2 to use a JD 213 flex, which are all over the place.
