Combines Setting cutting height

I guess we need to know what combine you have. I'm guessing it's a TR-75 or the like.

Does your 972 have the contacts on the back side of headIJ Sometimes I had to use a file to shine them up so they would connect. Also make sure that there is no dirt under the head between the skid plates. Take them off and clean dirt out and head will work much better. Its been some time sense I used a 972 so I'm not sure I can remember all the things I did. If you have any more qustions I think I still may have a operaters book for it.

Yep, the contacts are on the back side. They work just fine, but I was wondering what gap should be between them and the contact bar once you have your head at the desired height. I know about the in cab adjustment. like I said, if I get it to the right height with the cab adjustment then it doesn't want to lower. If I move the contact switch that lowers, then it seem to go too low. Maybe its just time to move up to an 86 with terrain tracer.

The 86 with terrain tracer is nice, but we should be able to get your head to work! It may be that the linkage is binding somewhere. I remember that I would take skidplates off and oil up the rod that goes across the head. I'm not sure if there is a spring to help move the linkage but could add one maybe. You could also tilt the feederhouse to set cutting height. Hope some of this helps. Ilnewholland

Any help is good help. Also looking over the combine today(Been too wet to combine beans) I noticed the one tire was lower than the other. I'm assuming that would also make a difference since an 1" or 2" difference in tire height can easily translate into 3 or 4" at the header ends. That I'll also assume would screw up your linkage and sensors.
