Depends what you have concave set to. If you have it set to zero on side of machine you will be at zero across very back of concave, zero midway from front to back of concave assembly and .42" at very front crossbar if you have front grate at MID. That is provideing everything is or has been zeroed out. Now if you were at 4 (4_16=1_4) on side of combine you would have .25" (1_4") clearance across the very back, .35" midway from front to back and .63" at front crossbar if you still had it set to MID. So you can see that if you were tring to knock out some very tough wheat and you have concave set near zero you will still have large gap at front if still set to MID. That is why most of my machines get set one mark toward MIN from MID before they go out. Now if you have moved toward MIN you will have to move it back before you move to a crop that requires larger concave clearance. I think there is a chart in your operaters that points out these clearances. Chart would point out where you can have front grate with all the various clearances. They are tring to prevent you from ever having concave tighter at the front than you are at any point to the rear. Did that make senseIJ Good luck
