GRS, Is your 2188 a 97 modelIJ My dealer told me that the 97 model will benifit the most from the slow down kit. I didn't know that untill the day I traded my 97s off or else I would have sure put that kit on them. Before you set yours back together get in the back end and make sure the shoe hanger is square. On some of those 2188s they had trouble with that whole shoe hanger getting out of square or maybe they were not welded up square at the factor. You can check if it is square by measuring in an X from one front corner to the back corner of the opposite side. If you have not done so already you should probably replace all those rubber bushings while you're doing that work, and yes when you go back together with it use locktite in those places that you asked about. I would echo what unit 2 said. The slow down kit will slow the shoe down about 6%. I have found that a quick check to determine if the square is close is to drop the drive belt on the right hand side of the machine and turn the big pulley by hand. If the shoe will make a complete cycle without binding your square is most likely ok, but if you're already there it doesn't take long to check.

It is a 97 Model. I will check the shoe hanger to see if is square. Will the speed reduction kit help, or hurt, with grain loss on the chaffer. Thanks for help

GRS, You should see very little differance either way, and you'll have a smoother running machine. With that kit the shoe will run about the same speed as shoe in the 95 and 96 2188s and also the 2388s. I think the fast running shoe in the 97 2188 was some engineer's wild expectation. K.A.

Two season ago I had trouble breaking the top screen. After posting here my trouble, it was suggested by some brilliant combiner to shim all of the octagon shafts and bearings on the screen drives. All of these parts were new, yet they still had play. The machine had already been squared. We shim with shim stock and I have harvested 1000 acres rice and 2000 acres beans over the last two years with no screen breakage. I would suggest this.
