Combines Shelbourne of rotor combine

I put a 1997 model RX66 on my 2188 this spring mainly to speed up my rice harvest. So far I've only cut 450 acres of wheat but was quite impressed with the capcity of the head. Mine has stainless strippers, hood, dome, and auger pan so I hope it'll last a while.

Have run a 24 ft cx72 on a 1480 for 3 seasons now and love it. Capacity in wheat, flax.oats is increased aprox 50-80% The only other change to the combine is to run enough concave cover plates to get a good thresh with less material going through the combine. Harvest losses are comparable to direct cutting and less than picking winrowed grain. Those headers saw big upgrades around 97-98 and from what I hear from other owners, the older ones do not work as well. The only speed limiting factor with the old 1480 is that it only goes 6-1_2 mph in 2nd gear. I have run a short distance in third gear at over 9 mph before the rotor drive started to overload. The harder you push it the better the header works. losses in small grain are totally dependant on operator skill and attention to header height and hood adjustment.

Ditto everything Rotor Man said. I have run a 28 ft head on a 1680 and 2388 since 1995. They are expensive (probably the reason for a lot of resales at end of season) but an absolute must for hailed or downed wheat. My 1995 crop (about 60 bu) was appraised at 6 bu after a hail storm. I bought a stripper head and it averaged 30 bu. I notill corn into the wheat stubble and feel the "stripped" straw is better for that so I would never go back. Remember you need cover plates, speed, lots of air and with Marvin's AirJet Chaffer your harvest loss is less than conventional headers.
