Combines shoe loss

Are your accelerator rolls in real good conditionIJ No adjustment will overcome shoe losses resulting from badly worn accelerator rolls. Also, are your distribution augers giving you even distribution of material across the shoe widthIJ Cheers!

Accelerator rolls are good. There seems to be a pretty even distribution of material across the width of the shoe when I do a full load shutdown.

You might try and add a "wind board" attached to the back of the chaffer. I used a 4" baler belt screwed to the back which left appoximately 2 to 3" of belt above the chaffer this allows me to turn up the wind and open the chaffer more. I have little if any loss out the back. Also make sure the bottom sieve is open enough, I have been in corn and didnt have it open enough and backed corn up and out through the chaffer. Just a couple of thoughts hope it helps.

Make certain the chaffer and sieve aren't so tight that they restrict air and the chaff isn';t lifted above the chaffer. Gleaner also makes a low cost kit to split the chaffer so you can tighten the back six inches or so and keep the front of the chaffer more open. This helps lift the chaff better at the front and keep it in suspension as it moves back. Also, check your fan blades (bent or missing) and the splitter so it directs air properly. Good luck.

No, not really , the N and R series successfully used this shoe up til about 96. I suggest also looking at your throat seal in front of the drive axel. I have never had a problem with shoe loss except in wet milo. I suggest you have a rpm problem or adjustment problem or your splitter is off. there is a splitter relocation kit for situations needing more air in the shoe. You don't have a small seeds kit installed do youIJ As stated there should be a nice 'rooster tail' of material over the end of the shoe. If you ahve too much air it will blow it out but more often I see to little air which lets grain 'walk' out in clumps.

You should have no problem with the smaller shoe. If the accelerator rolls are good the shoe is plenty big and at a good angle. Here's some things to check: cut off under fan choke has an even gap to fan blades all the way across (found plenty of these bowed back in the R60-70 days). Remove covers under fan and check clearance from splitter to fan blades it should be even all the way across. Make sure fan is not twisted. Now just ahead of accerator rolls there is the last few inches before air goes under the rolls. That last few inches should run parallel to the floor under engine. I have several of these older machines with that last few inches aimed down almost a foot ahead of rear of shoe. Not to bad to get it back up horizontal if you find this the problem. I can't imagine you wount find the problem with one or more of these areas. Good luck.
