I think that you may be able to make the 6 row work on the R-62 but the 15' flex would never be able to keep the machine full enough to get a good sample. I am not on large hills but I run an 8 row corn head at 5 to almost 6 mph and on dry rolled soybeans nearly 5 mph with a 25' flex. The accelerator rolls make these combines work very well on hills. A full tank will make you slow down going up hill (run out of power) before you start throwing anything over. I would search for a later R-52, but that is just my suggestion.

I agree with MN Dean; A 15 or even a 20 footer will not keep it full enough for a good sample.I have a 20 foot 8000 flex and it is not enough in beans. It is ok in real good wheat (80+bu). Also run a 12 row 20in. corn head. It is about right in 140-160 bu corn. I would like to go wider on the flex but it matches the planter now. If 15 feet is the max on your hills I would look for a late 42 ,52 ; or a 55 if you can find one. Also stay with a 800 or better flex and a hugger corn head. Also a 52 will drive alot more like the f's or l-m's due to it's size. Just my thoughts. Brooks

Thanks for the reply, I have a friend that has an R-42 with 6 row corn head, he says it performs better if he is running 5 to 6 miles per hour. R-52 would fit very nicely, but not nearly as many late model gleaners in this area any more. Hope to look at the R-62 tomorrow. This machine is a 1 owner, and I understand they are very particular with the maintenance of their machines as they grow seed beans and wheat. Dealer said they traded in 1 l3(already sold) and 3 R-62's for 1 new machine with a 40' Mcdonn head. I farm part time, a little over 300 acres, but with a machine of this size would farm more acreage if it were available. Thanks, greg

I would consider trying to go with a pkg deal on the 62 and then upgrade to an 8 row planter. 10 years ago I went from a F2 4row_13' to an N6 with a 6row_15'. I had to upgrade to a 6 row planter but it was one of the best things I ever did. I now have a 20' platform and given the hills I have I do not think I would go much wider than 22'. My neighbor has a 22' head on his combine and it works reasonably well. One thing about a 62 is the hopper size, I went from a 120bu hopper to a 245bu hopper what a difference when unloading. One hopper will fill my 250 bu wagons. Another thing to think about is look at the wear items on this machine. Although it my be a low hour machine the capacity is so great on these beasts allot of material goes through the machine every clock hour. JMHO Pete Hinrichsen
