what in your opinion is the best Air Real. we are going to be in the market for one in the spring.

I would look at an AWS . Same basic unit as a Crary but has belt drives instead of a gear box . If a belt goes you can keep going . If the gear box goes , your stopped until it is fixed . Temp Farm Equipment is the distributor for them . Contact me if you need more info . Joe

Are you happy with the cutting heightIJ If not, you can probably cut quite a bit closer by setting the final drives into the high position. That will tip your cutter bar down so that you can get as low as possible. Next, I would lower the reel until the teeth just barely clear the cutter bar when the float is maxed out at the top. In other words, make sure the cutter bar can't come up and cut off your reel teeth, but otherwise set the reel down as far as possible with the ram stops at both ends. Finally, I would mount the 3" flexible hose behind the cutter bar with 4" electrical conduit clamps. As the short beans fall onto the hose the reel will wisk them into the auger. You should be able to do a pretty good job in 12" tall beans.

We have the paddles installed on our 1020 head. It helps pull the plants back some, but it doesnt make a great deal of difference in cutting from what I have seen. You will still slide over the occasional forward leaning branch.
