Steve, i would not mess with rebuilding a machine like this if mine works fine but is a little worn. Just my opinion.

Would there be a need to run 3 combinesIJ If you don't have much money tied up, an extra machine would be nice to have as a back up. Our main combine is a M2 but we have a F2 that kinda serves as a back-up. When my first M burned I sold it to a salvage yard for $2,000.00. Wished a thousand times that I had kept it. Good luck in your decision. T3 P.S. My torque sensing box on the traction drive turned out to be the clutch slipping. Adjusted it all the way out and made it through harvest. Will rebuild clutch and pressure plate this winter. Thanks for the info. T3

Buying it for parts makes a lot of sense, but using it might be another story. Most bearings would be ticking time bombs unless you replaced all of them. An abandoned combine probably housed its share of the neighborhood mouse population so wiring could need replacement. The bottom of the grain tank could be rusted through. Chains would be the least of your worries. let us know what you decide to do. Tom in MN
