Combines Shoup rotor bars

Don't know about the quality of the Shoup bars,but I've ordered other stuff from them and been satisfied.When I bought a 1440 a few years back,I was afraid of roping,rotor rumble,etc.Had a JD before so I didn't quite know what to expect other than the stories I'd heard.I got the cut-out rotor bars,disrupters,and scallopped seperator bars from Don Estes,the Disrupter guy.The cut-out bars work good in large-seeded crops like corn-beans;probably not so good in wheat etc.They grab the crop better and pull it through.The Disrupters break up the roping in the sep. area,and the scallop sep. bars have teeth to dig into the crop mat in that area and keep it moving.I think that friction against the rotor cage slows down the outer part of the mat while the inside next to the rotor is moving more like the speed of the rotor so it starts tumbling in there.Anyway,I can't say that I've experienced the rumble that I've heard about.When the dealer came out to help me get the combine going the first time,he couldn't believe how quiet and smooth it was running in the beans,and I hadn't told what I had done.Hope this helps.Good luck.

I just purchased a 1440, with a standard rotor, last fall and expirienced this rotor rumble in beans. Have been careful not to wrap or plug the rotor so far. I have been considering installing the disrupters and bars. I have read these disrupters have a tendancy to rip up the straw alot in small grain. I also do wheat so that is a concern. Have some questions regarding ease of installation and removal etc. And your expirience with disrupters if you do small gains. Thanks for the advice. I've been looking at my transition vanes in the cage and found that two of them at the back of the grate area were bent over almost flat. I think this could be a lot of my problem--not getting material moved out as fast as it should be. I'm definitey considering a set of disrupters; they sure couldn't hurt anything except my checkbook! If anyone else has experience with them please let me know how they work for you. Thanks again!

Hi Jerry,the Disrupters are a 2 piece deal.One half fits above the grate and has the "spike" on it,and the bottom half just helps hold it place.There is one 7_16 bolt that clamps the two together on the grate.You can install them with the grates in;it just matters how long your arms are to reach over toward the right side.As easy as it is to pull the grates out,you might save time putting in the Dis. with the grates out.It would be easier to see how the spacing will work out.Yeah,you would probably want to pull them out for wheat;Disrupters that is.
