Combines shredder grate

Used one last year in a 1460 with no chopper in beans and was well satisfied with the results..won't grind up stalks as fine as a chopper but eliminates roping and bunching of the residue on the field surface and speeds rotting of the vines because they are shredded as well as cut..no problems with durability of grate...have heard of some problems with plugging the grate when used in conjunction with the disrupters so you may have to chose between using one or the other..this grate has worked well enough that I abandoned an earlier plan to install a chopper in my 1460...it's purpose is for grinding residue and does not aid in putting green or tough vines_weeds through the rotor...

Don't notice that shredder takes any more power to run than without it as the rotor still must turn over the vines etc...would say the shredder does not cut quite as fine as a chopper but in addition to cutting it also shreds the stalks which a chopper does not do so much...makes the factory spinners do a much better job of distributing the residue but will want to add fenders to the spinners so they don't pile residue on the axle...feel like the shredder makes an acceptable notill situation for the field surface....
