Combines sick of idlers

I seldom have idler bushing trouble except when I first buy a used machine, but then I am not afraid to waste some grease on them. I typically go several years without adjusting idlers. Unbalanced idler wheels are definitely a problem that shouldnt require a rocket scientist to solve. Tom in MN

IMO= The first year would be the most critical year to make adjustment.. Everything should be tight and New when you take delivery.. Then you use the thing and the new has to wear off or things need to "break in". But more often we see people that only want to adjust the steering wheel the hydro lever and the seat.

i would definately agree magnum i hate it when the dirt builds up in them and makes the belts slap causing excess wear and if they are double or triple v belts breaks them apart. I dont know why they cant make them solid keither great idea. It would also reduce the cloud of dust when the machine is shut off.

First and formost you just told on yourself. if you grease them they do not wear out that fast.i do not have problems with them at all. every now and then put some grease in them......those zerks are there for a reason. that idler arm works back and forth all day long and requires some lube. it is not a big deal to knock out the loose dust in the morning when servicing. it is when it is there long enough to get hard that the problems start. i align idlers on new machines and if greased it is as many as 4 years on custom cutters machines before adjustment is needed or those high dollar (maybe $3) bushings need replaced.you complain about the adjustment but take note that those green combines dont allow for adjustment and aligning one is a major problem( bend arm, bend combine etc). vstk

Just curious. How many hours a year do you put on your machine.

I dont recall exactly, but I do know I have to do one 50-hour grease during the season and the second one is almost due when we quit. Its probably in the neighborhood of 70-80 separator hours and a little over 100 hours on the engine meter. How many hours do you put onIJ

All I can say is that they get greased alot more than the recomended 50 hr interval like at least twice that often and they still give trouble.
