Combines Sickle suggestions

Have you had trouble with wobble box. I have a 94 R62 and keep losing the wobble box after 300 hours. Very expensive. I change sections after 150 hours or so. The rest of the knife is top shape. Any suggestionsIJ I have not heard about Cary or SCH acual use. I have literature. Hope someone out there who has them will comment.

We have a crary Gold-n-Cut on a 320 in front of a N5 and in conventional tillage 4.5 to 5 MPH doesn't seem to be a problem. We only cut 260 acres of beans with it this year and it did a good job, however it seems like it is going to want to be adjusted at about every 300 acres to keep from wearing out the holddowns as the wear plates start to wear. Suggestion on 300hr wob box: Some people actally "over grease" the wob box...I agree it should have a shot or two everyday but thats about all.. Blow it out everyday to keep dirt and straw build up to a min.. Ask the guy who has rebuilt the box for you what the torque spec's are on the different bolts .. if he dosn't know or gets a blank look on his face I wouldn't let him do it again...Building a wob box is harder than you might think, it also require special tools, consentration and attention to detail..

we have a sch system on a 1994 520 in front of 1981 hyper n-6. very dissatisfied with sch system we have tried changing pulleys to speed up cutter bar, can still only run 3.5 mph or you push beans over. our old double cut would outperform this head hands down!

We can't make the double cut or quick cut work very well unless we add a bunch of hold downs. Main problem is with navy beans or tough stalks. I like the standard sickle better than quick cut but would rather have SCH or Crary. Maybe you could tilt cutter bar down with adjustment screws to get closer to root to get a better cut. Maybe you can run diagnal if you have solid seeded. Shouldn't need to speed up sickle but there are various pulleys available.

I put a SCH knife kit on my 300 series head this year. It was easy to install and did a great job in wheat. The real test of a knife though is beans and I'm more than satisfied. 4.5 mph in short no-til beans with lots of old corn stalks and there are no beans left standing. Next day, the stubble is still looking like it was mowed. Dave

I have a sch system on a M3 header. I have run 6 mph in short beans without any loss. The wear is absolutly great.If I got another machine I would have to put a sch system on it before I started.

Dan, would you please explain why you add hold-downsIJ Are you trying to deep the sickle on the guards where it belongs or are you getting more cutting edges when the sickles bend upward as usually happensIJ That would explain why many users of SCH sickles are happy with them. Thanks Tom in MN

How many acres do you guys have on your SCH sicklesIJ It seems all new sickles are great the first year or two, but the real question is how do they perform after they wear a little. I like the SCH concept because it appears to solve the inevitable problems of sections bending up. But I have never seen one in operation. Thanks Tom in MN
