Combines Since this is quiet

I have a 1660. I don't change the beater extensions at all. If I could remove a rock trap between soybeans and corn in an hour, I would do it to reduce the cob breakage and more capacity. If you have ever taken off the feeder house first and looked under the RT beater, you will see the narrow opening for the crop to feed into the rotor. JK

Probably wont learn much from me, I'm in grass seed country. But....... Combine is an antique 1680 long shoe convert. Paddle fan. Specialty rotor. Running full set of gorden bars, and helical concaves most of the time. Dont have a rock trap. What's the next question BrodaleIJ

Run a 2366, stock specialty rotor, 20'1020, 100 bu. barley, 140-220 bu. corn, 70-100 bu wheat. My biggest rock trap frustration comes in wet barley. I keep the bars in the inmost position for the sake of maximizing capacity. I switched from smooth to serrated bars, helps some. Also find in hard feeding crops the slowest factory beater speed works best.

I've never seen it with the feeder off but you got me thinking. I should be able to check that opening by laying a piece of steel across the top of the rock trap with the door open.

2166 all stock 25' 1020 1063 usually 175 av corn and 40 beans and 60 wheat run about 4.5 in wheat and beans and 5.5+ in corn somtimes a little short on power in green beans but not often.

If you plan on removing the feeder house....make sure you unhook the small chains that hold up the swing trap door. Else you will pull the springs apart. Best way we do it is 1. remove the front "covers and flap" then use a skidloader with a teeth bucket and slide it IN on top of the feeder chain and lift it out. JK

2366, 25ft, 6rn, wheat 100bu+ all the straw too, beans 40 avg, corn 150 avg. Run slow speed sprocket in all crops = more capacity especially when it is tough. Remove the smooth adjustable bars in standing small grains, re-install in down grain, beans and corn. I have used serrated and only see advantage in green stem soybeans. Install a new set of wearbars on the front of rotor every year so the edge is sharp not rounded to grab the crop away from the feeder better. Set front feeder drum stops all the way up to allow the drum to float full travel and get the crop in the feeder 4-5" thick.

JWK: My thoughts were the same as yours about removing the rocktrap beater.Tough green beans used to wrap on the beater shaft often!I do have some small rock and need the protection so I didn't want to run with out it,but also new it was limiting my capacity. I finally took out the factory rocktrap beater and put the Razor in. This beater is made on a spiral which does not limit the feeder house in capacity and also takes care of the issues with wear on the elephant ears not feeding the rotor properly. I'm not selling here. But if you are interested in improving feeding where we think it is the rocktrap give Carl an email and ask him some questions on the issue,he has a lot of experience with axial flows. "The Razor" his email address Kenny
