Combines Singles or Duals

The duals should bolt up to hubs on final drives but I would first check the parts catalog to find out for sure. You will probably need to put on axle extensions in order to gain clearance on the sides of machine. We have duals now on our combine. We always had singles before. After having the duals we would never go back. The machine is so much more stable. Duals I feel are really worth it. When it gets muddy it seems like the duals dont wan't to swim as much. But I guess this is my opinion.

Duchek, You'll probably like duals better for row crop because the machine will track down the rows so much better. If you have sticky soil and think that mud will get packed between the duals, you should probably think about large single tires. Firestone and Michelin both make some really large single tires now. Either way, I would suggest contacting R A Wold and Sons @ 800-443-9653. They sell tons of rims to replace the weak factory ones and can probably answer all your questions.

Might consider tracks, they give even better stability. Would not be as wide on the road and better visibility and less mud problems.

A good friend of mine owns two Deere 9600. One with duals one with single wheels. After the wet summer of 99 here in the midwest, he told me he couldn't find a difference in performance. So why spend the money and hazzle with dualsIJ

We are in the midwest and have one combine on 35x32" rubber and one with 20.8x42 duals. The 35's are non-rice tires as are the duals. The 35's are on a 9500 and the duals on a R62, both are RWA. In any case the duals will go farther in the mud and don't slip around as much as the 35's. They also increas ground clearance about 4-6". 35's with Rice tires would be pretty good, but then you have to ride that thing on the road. Duals also provide tons of stability on flex headers resulting in your header control_lateral tilt working less.

in quebec , most of the combine are sold with duals. the tire are 18.4- 38 for 9500 mostly and for 9600 it`s 18.4- 42 or 20.8 -42. for rear tires consider 28- 26 tire. each fall we harvest in wet condition

If you are changing over a singles combine to duals you will need to get axle extentions and a longer axle rod.
