Saw a 1974 K gas model for sale a few weeks ago, it had a ten foot header, no corn heads, no chopper just a base machine with no air(except for the broken window in the door!). It appeared to have spent most of it's life out doors and they were asking 2300$ I hope this gives you some idea where to start on yours. I gave 3000$ last fall for my K2 gas with 12 foot header and 2 and 3 row corn heads, nice machine overall and won't take up much shed space. Good luck!

$2300 is insane, at least in SE Wisconsin here. I paid $1200 for my E last fall, it came with a 10ft flex head, 3 row narrow corn head, chopper, straw spreader, and probley half a combine in parts. It is and was in excellent shape. I used it all fall without needing to put a drop of motor oil in it. I know, I'm sorry for bragging but I love my Gleaner, I wish the guy luck to get what he asks but I don't think it will happen.

My advice is don't get rid of your old K. Keep it for parts. If it is a 12201 and up serial number, then most everything will transfer to your 1973 K. If its older then your hydraulics are slightly different, otherwise close to same parts everywhere else. The final drives, transmission, govenor, tires_rims, rear axle, walker cranks, and cab gauges are probably good yetIJ Not to mention the sheaves and shafts. These items are not cheap to replace.

I think the high price for not nice is why it still sits for sale, sounds like you got a good deal on your E, probably did better than I did on my K 2. I am excited to use mine too but I have to wait until Wheat is ready, oh well.

The K we are trying to sell has some noteable differences. 3 brakes instead of the one on the one we just bought. Also, I think the hydraulic pumps are different. The machine we are selling is field ready. It also has air conditioner, not factory, 13 foot header with finger reel, reel speed, reel height. I think it is in fairly good condition so I would hate to part it out, plus we kind of need to get the money out of it to pay for the other one. It starts right up, and does a good job. It has the belt drive cylinder, as the one we bought is gear driven. Which is better, gear or belt, and why did gleaner stop using the gear and went to belt, on this modelIJ Also is it out of line to ask $2000.00 for this machineIJ Thanks

What to ask for a priceIJ It really depends on where your located. I have heard these machines bring more in the eastern states (Ohio, Penn, NJ, Eastern Shore of DElMARVA, and Carolinas) Around here in central-southern Illinois, it varies from $500 for a running K gleaner with it's platform - $1500 for a clean running K gleaner with Air Cond. and platform - no oil leaks.
