Combines Slop in 4400 Chopper Belt

It will bounce a little, but 8-10" sounds like too much. Here are a few thoughts- Do you have an electronic shaft speed monitorIJ Is the chopper running the right speed under loadIJ Behind the fuel tank is a double pulley where the front chopper belt and the rear chopper belt meet. Behind that double pulley is a metal strap with a long slot in it. As you stand between the fuel tank and the rear axle and pull down slightly on the rear chopper belt, make sure the slot does not bind with the pin that goes through it. Also, the pin should not be against the end of the slot. As you pull down on the belt and release it, everything should move freely to allow the spring to properly tension the two chopper belts (front and rear). Make sure the front belt is in the correct pulley groove up at the primary countershaft. If all the above checks out OK and the belt is in decent condition, I would suggest replacing the spring. Replacing the spring takes some muscle, so be careful. (My machine: 1970 7700 serial no. 2304)
