Combines Slotted vs keystock grates

In grass, if the weather is hot and very dry, I'll replace the rear 2 grates with slotted. No channels. I dont it very often, just if the stems break up too much and the seperation is complete early in the concaves. Have'nt had to put them in at all with gorden bars so far. That's in windrowed grass seed with lots of brittle straw.

We run slotted grates with the bars on the outside in cereals and keystock grates in beans and corn. The reason for slotted grates is because we want as much straw as we can get.
