Sparky that's what we run on the 6620, 95 and 55, my 7700 has a St' John airfoil chaffer. I have always had bad luck with long fingered chaffers getting straw hairpinned thru the front, never a problem with the small grain screen and if you get in to 700+ fescue you can open it up so you won't lose any but still be able to utilize the cut down spaces when you're in light seed. Do you want a new or used chafferIJ I bought the 6620 chaffer new from sloan express (www.sloanex.com) and was pleased with the price and the fact that all orders over 165 dollars get free shipping. Down here near Aurora I have roughly 700 acres to do - most is decent, still lots of hay to be cut and lots of worm damage - talked to Pennington yesterday and price is a .42 currently - looks like a good price year. On the brakes, I think I boofed - I think the 4400 has the JD disk type brakes, not the drum brakes like the 7700, sorry. let me know how the seed looks your way and how everything else is going. 95man

95man,Thanks for the info. I was pretty sure it would help but I just wanted some reassurance. Since it doesn't look like the seed is going to be very good around here, I figured I better do everything I could to make the thin patches run better. It could problaby save some downtime if the straw is not getting wrapped around shafts and augers.I'm also thinking about getting a hand held moisture tester. I think the Farmex 40 grain tester is suposed to work on fescue seed. Some of the people I run for are real parinoid about moisture and it would save some time and miles if I could test it right there at the combine. How bad are the army worms down thereIJ I'm starting to here about more damage around here but I havn't got to look at my feilds yet, maybe today.

Sparky, Here we have had several areas that have been stripped by the army worms, have lost about 100 acres of custom work thanks to the dang things. The cold and wet snap a week ago took care of most of them. How much does a moisture tester like the Farmex 40 costIJ Might try one if the price was right. As for the chaffer, have you found one yetIJ Might be able to help you. 95man

I put the adjustable type airfoil chaffer in my 4400 last year. Worked great in clover seed. You can close it down a little which makes the upper surface more flat. You can really cut down on stem pieces (which are a real problem in weedy clover as they choke the holes shut on the clover sieve) that way. It worked great for soybeans last fall as well. It worked alright shelling corn but the corn cob tips will get in the holes and you have to get every one out before you can adjust the chaffer closed or you will bend parts. I bought mine from Shoup, had to pay some truck freight but it is better than the fixed size chaffers offered by other companies for small seeds.

If I remember right the tester was $250.00. No I havn't got a chaffer yet but I found one in Sloan. I looked at my records from last year and with 36 cent fescue I lost $3000.00 dollars to foriegn matter. My percentage wasn't high but I guess it adds up. Doesn't make it too hard to justify a $350 dollar chaffer. When do you plan on startingIJ I'm hoping it will be ready the week of the 11 th. Good luck

Sparky, Sloans gives you one hell of a deal with free shipping on orders over 165 bucks. I'm looking at a 10 to 14 day wait until its swathing time, this past week i've added 200 acres to my acreage to cut so it should be a pretty good year, hopefully the weather cooperates (lOl). Take care and keep in touch! 95man

95man hows the seed looking down thereIJ Some of ours is ready to thresh but there is some green stuff in with it. Have you heard anymore about the priceIJ I'll call this week to check price and when they are going to start buying. Not many people wanting seed cut, They say they want the hay. They don't understand that combining the seed doesn't ruin the hay crop.
