Combines smoldering dust in engine compartment

Just finished rebuilding our R72 Deutz after the broken crank last year. We found the heads had been over heated and moved the valve seat. A 1200 dollar job to replace the valve seats. We noticed that the air flow around valves was blocked. The heads looked clean until you removed the rocker arm assembles. Seems like a very hard place to clean, but there is a small air passage that comes out under rocker arm assembles. If anyone has a suggest on how to clean that area I am very interested. Our combine has the exhaust covers, but not sure if they help as we didn't get enough hours on unit for a good test. I know with our R50 you sure had to keep the area under grain tank clean. We did the work and can sure see why the change so much to rebuild. Both in how things are done and cost of parts, deutz fits right in with airplane engines.

In my opinion, you cant do a thorough job of cleaning the cooling fins unless you remove the air cleaner, swing the oil cooler off the top of the engine, and then go about blowing out cooling fins. We do this during the winter every couple of years and dont even bother with any daily cleaning because it doesnt do much good anyway. Another rule of thumb is to avoid using water because it turns dust into mud which sticks to cooling fins. I havent experienced any overheating problems with my R60. Good luck.

all the green owners around our neck of the woods combine accross the wind so that it always blows the dust away from the machine i think i may try it this year so i dont have to blow out the radiator as much august wieser rosholt, sd

The dust is igniting on the exhaust manifold. There is a cover kit available for around $1200 that prevents that. I had numerous fires on my old R 60 until I installed the kit then none after.

It is an AGCO kit. I don't know if it is still available or not that was several years ago.
