Just finished rebuilding our R72 Deutz after the broken crank last year. We found the heads had been over heated and moved the valve seat. A 1200 dollar job to replace the valve seats. We noticed that the air flow around valves was blocked. The heads looked clean until you removed the rocker arm assembles. Seems like a very hard place to clean, but there is a small air passage that comes out under rocker arm assembles. If anyone has a suggest on how to clean that area I am very interested. Our combine has the exhaust covers, but not sure if they help as we didn't get enough hours on unit for a good test. I know with our R50 you sure had to keep the area under grain tank clean. We did the work and can sure see why the change so much to rebuild. Both in how things are done and cost of parts, deutz fits right in with airplane engines.
