I am doing the same thing to 630 black head. last year I put new snapping roll blades on with out changing the blade extention and because the extentions where worn down so much the corn stock would not feed in very good and cause it to break off. I think having it standing up is the best way. I have found that the pins drive out better if you can determan what end is larger and drive that end out first and I have not found an easy way to get the blade extentions off.
