Combines Solid Cylinder w staggered bars in Deere book

John deere bought out sunnybrook patent on solid cylinder and the agressive beater.

There is an outfit building solid beaters for sts machines in Saskatchewan can't remember the name of the dealer , I will try to find the name of the dealer and get back to you.

Don't know if JD bought the patent or not, but SunnyBrook Welding is one maker of solid cylinders. St John Welding (www.stjohnwelding.com) in Kansas has been making them solid cylinders quite a while too, and I think they were doing it before Sunnybrook. Gleaner uses solid Sunnybrook rotors as an option for their combines too.

They are a "Sunnybrook". John Deere sells them now. Not sure if they bought the patent or what. But I heard that Deere didn't want a cylinder like that on the market being sold in other stores other than John Deere stores. The cylinder weighs over 800lbs, and suppose to do a better job. They are more aggressive, consume less power, and save on fuel. No more slugging once you put one of these babies in. I'd like to put one in our 9600 this summer. They cost around $5000 CAN, ($4100 U.S.) I think it would be a great upgrade. The only thing that would worry me would be ingestion.

Thanks guys, I wondered if it might be a sunnybrook. With that cylinder now rock solid, and a rock solid concave under it, I wonder what will give when something steel hard gets in there, like mondo said. Might still be a very good upgrade. GS

I was thinking of buying one for a 9600 2 years ago and spoke to the people at sunnybrooke. At that time they told me to hurry because deere was going to take over any market into the U.S. on the cylinder kits and boronized bars. I found one recently in Dallas and am going to instal this one in a 9650. THE PRICE NOW FROM DEERE WAS NEARlY 1000$S MORE THAN FROM SUNNYBROOKE DIRECT. I waited too long. I will say that there isnt anyone else out there that is using the boronizing process on their parts but sunnybrooke.

Did it have the "short, staggered" bars, or were they the full length rub barsIJ The short staggered, stair-case designed cylinder is suppose to run smoother and have less vibration. They stay clean, and don't trap dust like the older design.

Everything I have read is that this cylinder is for tough, hard to feed crops, like high yielding spring wheat. So, my question is would this setup work well in hard red winter wheat, milo, corn and soybeansIJ Or would it be too aggressive in these cropsIJ The reduced vibration would be great though.

They work well in all crops (from what I've heard). You just have to slow it down.

have two 9610s with solid cylinders in them . 700 or 800 sp hours on them. boronized bars show very little wear. more capacity burns less fuel smooth running machines.this year added sunny brook aggresive beaters.we would not run jd conventionals without this setup.
