yes it is possible. It has been our experience that unless corn is below 15% you need those extra teeth. Hard surfaced wide spaced rasp bars are the way to go. You will need to change the cyl and front door to rasp setup. Finding an entire throat is not a bad swap either. Spikes are awesome in soft red winter wheat and soybeans and DRY corn, especially with the full range VS late model units. Your decision depending on crops.

Rasp is best for corn. For what it is worth, some 30 to 35 years ago I know of two farmers that at that time used a spike in all their corn at all moistures. They made filler bars that covered the space between rows of spikes and bent up into the spike a little. Not sure how much, but not very much. They said it did a a very good job but broke the cob too much. As they changed to new machines they had rasp. Dry beans was the reason for the spike.

Yes, thanks for the reminder, spike lap fillerbars are a necessity, and can be left in for all crops. lap fillers for rasp CAN NOT be unless you like a visit from a few of them coming through the cab floor in wheat!
