Combines split beans

I thought of that but, these concaves do not have any wires and I`m afraid I`ll get lots of unthreshed pods with no cover plates

Shucks, Since I'm not familar with your concaves I can't comment. If it's not too much trouble to remove the plates, you could do it and just see what happens. I almost never have problems with splits, even in some 9% moisture beans this year. I'm running standard large-wire concaves with all wires in and no cover plates.

Hey Deadduck, What do you have your screens set on IJ (chaffer, shoe) Tim

I usually set them by feel, but probably 5_8th inch on the chaffer and 1_2 inch on the shoe. I set the front section of the chaffer closer and the back section more open. I run the fan as fast as possible without blowing grain out, usually about 1120 or so. Rotor at 600 and concaves at 4. Vanes middle position. These settings are estimates, I change them depending on the conditions. Here are my objectives in order of importance: 1)as little grain loss as possible even at high ground speeds 2)Run as little threshed grain through the tailings as possible 3)Keep the sample under 1% FM with few splits. Notice that the perfect sample is not that high on my list. As long as I'm not getting docked, I don't worry too much about it.

Deadduck, Thats about the way I have it set but the sample looks like hell. I guess I'll have to tinker with it some more if I ever get back in the field. What part of la. are you inIJ Thanks for your reply. Tim

is there any chance you have dirt or mud build up in the bottom of the clean grain elevatorIJ i have sometimes had to clean out the access door. the other thing to check might be if the shoe sieve is closed too tight and sending beans back to the rotor. good luck
