Here's a tip-don't eat the yellow snow-no that's not the one. Cut a piece of 1_8" UHMW the same size as the rubber and bolt it next to the rubber so the straw contacts it first. The rubber will stiffen the UHMW so it acts like the original paddles, yet the rubber will not wear.

I believe the rubber will aid spreating just a touch but main reason if for the guy wandering around machine with it running. It will feel much better getting a warning from the rubber than sharp edge of steel.
