I have a question for you Columbia Basin farmers. A week or so ago I saw a couple of guys up near Othello along 26 plowing a field that was absolutely bare, no residue at all. And plowing it deep. Plowing seemed like a waste of time and money to me. He was just going to go pack the soil back down anyway. Any idea why was he plowingIJ Recreational tillageIJ
I grow wheat, soft white and dark northern spring. I also have walla walla sweet onions, green peas, spinach and some years do chick peas, canola and cucumbers.I have 8780 Massey with hillco leveler.I have relatives that farm near Dusty,do you know the ZugersIJ
Up here in East Central MN we have about another week before we can even get in the fields for tillage. Some of the sandy soil is drying up but other fields have some standing water still. They are talking 35 and snow tommorrow but it should be back in the 60's by midweek. What a crazy year for weather...barely any snow all winter, then in late March early April we get over 2 feet and then several inches of rain. Then last Monday we were at 92 degrees and now for Sunday they are talking snow. Thats MN for ya.
Drove to wisconsin last summer and went thru south mn. Just miles and miles of corn and beans. Would like to be back there for harvest sometime. Never been up close to a corn header, would like to see how they work. I'm sure some of you flat land guys would like to see us harvest our steep hills here in the northwest. Had a farm family from Indiana visit the people I work during harvest and they rode the combine. they thought it was a neat experience.
thanks, but we recieved one sunday morning. A whopping .4" Already dry tonight. It will work out somehow, it always does. Hope things are going well for you, too! GS
