Combines squaring up show frame

When I had a 2188 that I suspected the shoe was out of square, my dealer told me to get in there and measure the shoe hanger on an X. If it was out of square he did not give me much hope of getting it squared up. After I traded the machine off to them they took out the shoe and everything and replaced the hanger. I'm sure that is not what you wanted to hear. The good news though I have not heard of many of those short shoe 1680s that were out of square. It was a common problem for the 2188s. Also a while back I saw on this site an after market kit that was supposed reinforce the shoe on all 1600, 2100, and 2300 case combines. It looked like a good deal to me. Good luck!!

You should have shims between each bushing and the shoe pan frame. Move the shims accordingly to move the pan right or left. If you dont have any shims, you may need to press the bushings outward in the arms to make room for the shims. Then shim to make it square.

You can either push the bushing through the arm a bit, or just add a couple of washers to the close side. in future when you take bushings out try to note how far each one pokes through each arm and press the new one through the same.

My previous 1420 I did, it worked fine. Did it all in a day, no distractions. This time, distractions were the problem. SHould have been all at once, for less forgetfulness. I know, my bad
