Combines Staggering reel teeth and helical IJIJ

I took a look at a late model HCC reel and Rolf hit it about right. I did a Crary reel in a very similiar manner. The Crary was hard to beat the way it was but with steggered teeth look out. I don't know if the new tubes are in the parts system yet but I bet you could go for a ride to get a look at one. On the helical extention. The first ones I made I pulled the crop flow director out and used the two mount holes to fasten the brackets which would hold the filler that would support the extended helical. That was a mouthfull did you understand thatIJ Anyway now I leave the crop flow director in but I cut away enough material to extend the helical to seperator grate area. I like to leave as much of crop flow director in as posible to prevent any unthreshed crop from sneaking onto seperator grate area before going over the concave. I then secure the filler plate for supporting helical to the crop flow director by welding it. I over lap the added helical onto cage area to help support the filler. Exsisting helical may need to be shortened to overlap added helical onto cage. I allways have one bolt for securing the added helical go threw the cage and one or two (depending on which P3) go threw filler piece. I think all that will give you a good enough general idea to get that helical extended. I have saw helical filler welded in and helical welded on ect. Whatever works for you but just be sure to fasten in well. The R42-52 will need very little removed from crop flow director to extend that helical. The R40-50-62-72 will need quite alot more removed to extend that helical. Good luck.

Thanks Dan for clearing this up for me! As I looked the situation over, it almost looked like the helical could be extended without removing much or any of the crop director and I figured it would make sense to leave it there if possible. At first glance at the helical that stops short of the feeder opening, it didn't look like you'd gain much by extending it - that is until you follow that helical back up and around and get an idea of how much crop material that helical grabs off the concave! And it looks to me like it throws the straw right at that crop diverter causing it all to get recycled. I can now see that it will make a huge difference by getting that thing extended! Now if I can just find a dwarf to go in there and do the work! I don't like trying to cram my fat butt into small places - 'specially with tools that make fire and sparks! And stupid me, the carnival has left town too! Does anyone have any used helical laying around they'd be willing to sell usIJ I would need enough for the feeder helical work as well as the discharge helicals. Please email me if you do! Thanks,
