Combines Stalk Stompers

I ran the stalk stompers on my deere head this year. I think they helped with tire damage a lot. The way mine worked out they did not mash the stalk all the way to the ground they just leaned it over away from the tire. I don't think they would do much on rows that the tires were not running over. I mean that I think the stalks would just be leaned over some and not all the way on the ground.

I know somebody who made rollers for his MF 1143 corn head to push the stalks down on all the rows. It pushed them over, but didn't do much for accelerated decomposition. It did allow him to no-till wheat or rye into the stubble without shredding, though. He has since traded up to a CaseIH, and just runs the flail shredder over the stalks now.

After seeing considerable tire damage on my r62, I added (2) stompers to rows 2 and 5 of a six row head. I ordered just two, when I knew I really needed four. I will definitely be adding two more for next season. When you look at the cost of the tire damage and possible downtime it's just a "no brainer". Obiously I was very satisfied. PS. I ordered them from Shoop.

I rode on a Deere with stalk stompers from Shoups this fall..did the job OK but looked kind of flimsy. $150 bucks a piece seems to be what most are priced around. Are there good ones (durable) out thereIJ I need a set also this next year and would like opinions before I buy. Thanks

I have used May Wes stompers for years - work very good. Go to Google and you will find them.
