rtnky, I'm using the SCH system on my 1020 header this fall for the first time. I don't have a lot of acres on it yet but I'm sure pleased with it so far. It really does a nice clean job of cutting both in good irrigated beans and in very short dryland beans. K.A

Went to the std 3" cut last year for the first time, wasn't reel satisfied until I put the speed up pulley on it this year now I'm realy satisfied I think it was 600 rpm and std was 500 or 540

You gotta remember: All systems work good when new. 1 1_2 inch cut cost more to keep up than 3 inch not sure but SCH probably cost more upkeep also because they push their superiority 1 1_2 inch cut runs slower, if the header came out with 1 1_2 inch cut you will surely have to speed up the box for 3 inch cut. Farmers that push 3 inch systems for notill [corn stalks plugging 1 1 _2 inch cut} are justifying to their wife that they did the right thing...1 1_2 inch cut has a live point, sections stick out past the guards so there is no spearing of corn stalks...We have used 1 1_2 inch cut for 17 years and they do fine for us...We have notilled everything for the last 11 years. however that was not your question...It has been circulating that SCH is a better system than stock...In my opinion 1 1_2 inch cut is better than stock, and surely both cost more to maintain than does stock if that is an issue with you.

The SCH cutterbar does not require as much upkeep as the standard sickle. There are no guides to keep adjusted, and it uses over under serated sections. This means that every other section is turned upside down so that it cuts on the top and bottom edges of the guards, which will increase the life of the guards. The guards are also forged steel vs. cast.

When I was running the stock sickle I changed every section before each season. From what I've seen with the SCH they should be good for at leat two seasons. I'll let you know when I'm finsied. K.A.

I had the 11_2 on, i put the sch on 2 yrs ago. I have not had to do anything to it yet. I have not broken a guard or section do to rocks. I am very pleased with it so far. Yes you do have to speed the knife drive up to.

The Case Gaurds are not made to cut on the top side. It wouldn't take much to turn every other section over for a few ft. and try it, but I don't think it will work.

smarter farmers use schumacher. period. i sell both. i'd rather sell caseih or deere. puts more money in my pocket. the blades and guards wear together, meaning total replacement at some point. the sch, for short, wears differently. knife bar(not back) on wear bar(not guard). if using double sided heat-treated bars that means you can flip them three times after the first use. try doing that with any oem guard, and see where you end up. yes, it's superior; and yes expect to pay for it. great to have if you don't have a dealer close-by, too.
