Combines Standard Rotor in Tough Conditions

Thanks for the great info. The more I talk to people about the Standard Rotor, the more I wonder if it has received a bit of a bad rap by people with all 8 straight rasp bars installed in the frontIJ I guess these really help with wheat, but may add to the rotor rumble problem in beansIJ Do you know how many you have installedIJ Do you have anything installed to help cut up the bean vines, like Disruptors or sickle sectionsIJ Thanks, Mike

Farm Kid2, The two machines I have now are the first Case IH machines I've had with Standard Rotors. I'm afraid some one would have to twist my arm pretty hard to get me to go back to the specialty rotor. Granted, in Kansas we may not have the tough soybeans that you have where you are at, but I never hear rotor rumble. And in wheat and corn the Specialty rotor is so much harder to get set right.

heyman, If you have problems with even feeding get a Crary Air Finger Reel. It's worth every penny you pay for it in better feeding and less shadder loss. K.A.

Unit 2, You are right on with a Crary Air Reel on a 1020 platform, after two seasons I can't see why they aren't standard equipment, a deduct if you don't want it.

Mike, New standard rotors in combines going into corn and soybean country only have of the straight bars installed from factory. Jim

Sorry about that,-- left out a key word. It should say only one-half of the straight bars installed from the factory. That happened shortly after the 1680 model came on the scene.

I've never seen an air reel in our area. Do they work on 30ft. flex heads, how are they in soybeans, and what do they cost. TIA

Yes, they work on 30'1020's(flex-head)and they work well; even feeding, positive feed in short crop. I don't know about small grains, we run them in soybeans. It is my understanding that when first introduced they didn't have a reel, (similiar to the Kehoe Vortex Air Reel) but when started working in row-crop country decided it needed a reel. I enjoy cutting soybeans now. They are kinda spendy--$8000--$9000 new for the air system only, we bought ours used, 30' headers w_air reels, 3and4 seasons $15000 and $17000. Crary now offers a system that mounts out in front of the OEM reel, meaning you don't have to buy a new reel, should be priced a bit lower.
