Hey onion farmer are you near Pasco - Was at NW research lab last year - looked pretty dry there - seemed the big thing was vineyards - wine tasted good - how far were you from St. HelensIJIJ Did all that ash increase the fertility of the soilIJIJ Is it true that the JD STS couldn' take all the volcanic dust and they had to rebuild most of themIJIJIJ

I farm 50 miles southwest of Pasco,we get A lot more rain here because of the moutains. Wine grapes are the next big thing here. The ground around here is mostly hills,Pasco is flat. WE are 250 miles or so from MT st helens but I will never forget that day. Day turned to night and fine white ash fell from the sky. Here we just got a dusting, to the north they got inches. And every time the wind blew we had a dust storm. The closer to the volcano it was more like sand. It was hard on combines and anything with a motor. AS far as John Deeres, they wearout sitting in the barn.

My nieghbor has a gleaner and he plants and feeds the birds while he's combining. It's a one pass operation talk about no-till fuel savings!

Onion Farmer: Don't know anyone that parks a combine in a barn around here...must be a Washington thing. Deere will out-do any Massey ever built when it comes to threshing quality. If you want cob-meal, then the Massey's your machine.
